Endorsement - Dave Hodges

The upcoming election is an important one as Arizonans will make some crucial decisions which could immediately impact our lives in the areas of border enforcement, healthcare, education and the economy. I have basically taken an anti-incumbent "Toss them all" theme to this year's political candidates. As CNN has so aptly put it, we suffer from a "broken government". The only way to change government is to change the people that we put in government. I am not voting for the candidate that has popularized this saying, but I agree with the sentiment. Despite the housecleaning approach that I think the country should employ, I have actually found myself endorsing just a few well-deserving candidates for re-election.

THE CANDIDATES

Endorsement - Craig Cantoni: Send a Message on Election Day

Given that Republican gubernatorial candidate Len Munsil is going to lose by a wide margin to the Democratic incumbent, it's an ideal time to send a message to the political establishment by voting for the Libertarian candidate, Barry Hess.  Many people agree with the libertarian philosophy that people should be allowed to live like they want as long as they don't harm anyone else, but they consider a vote for a Libertarian candidate as a wasted vote that takes votes away from Republicans, because Libertarians have little chance of winning.  Since the Republican is going to lose anyway, the argument doesn't hold.  Besides, Hess is the best candidate and the only one who would change the status quo.

Fenger points the way to vote: Hess

Becky Fenger writes:

While we are on the subject of suggestions, how about this one: All voters who oppose Gov. Janet Napolitano should vote for Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Barry Hess. I see no way that Len Munsil can close the gap, especially with moderate Republican women voting for Janet on the basis of their ovaries. That way, if Hess gets five percent of the vote, Libertarians will automatically be qualified for the ballot next cycle and save them lots of labor. Besides, anyone who has seen Hess in the debates would have to say he won the rounds.

Hi, Barry,

My wife, Nancy, and I had the pleasure of speaking with you at the
Coconino County Fair a while back.  I was impressed enough to decide to
give you my vote in November.  Nancy had to think about it.

However, after last week's debate on "Horizon", Nancy decided to vote
for you.  We called her mother to tell her to watch the debate, and it
looks like she will be voting for you as well.  What's to lose in that
debate?  The Republican spent his time attacking the incumbent's
record, and she spent her time defending that record.  The only direct
engagement with issues came from you.

By the way, when we spoke last, I was on the fence as far as
registering with the Libertarian Party.  I regret that hesitation now. As soon as the election's over, I'm going to take care of that.

Media Bias Observation by M Carroll of Glendale

Email from M Carroll of Glendale:

For what it's worth, I just sent the following letter to the editor of
the AZ Republic.

While basically libertarian in my political and economic views, I had
never heard of Barry Hess prior to Thursday’s televised debate
between the gubernatorial candidates. Mr. Hess clearly came off the
winner. While Mr. Munsil did a terrific job in documenting Governor
Napolitano’s abysmal failure as Governor, he offered nothing new as a
solution; just the same old tired Republican rhetoric which is never
implemented once a Republican takes office. At least the Democrats are
honest about their treachery – they tell you upfront about all the
immoral and unconstitutional programs they are going to implement. The
Republicans tell you what you want to hear and then do the opposite
once they take office.

If Arizona is going to be salvaged from its swirling around the toilet
bowl, it is going to take people like Mr. Hess that are truly willing
to take a principled stand to get the government off of our backs and
out of our wallets, and stand by their oath of office to uphold the
Arizona and U.S. Constitutions.
Not one single governor in the United States stands against illegal
immigration or attempts to enforce Federal or local laws in our states.
They, in fact, aid, abet and assist illegal aliens. By doing this, they
violate their oath of office in addition to committing a felony. It’s
time to put an end to this, along with the state income tax, government
schools, and all the other socialist schemes of the Republicans and
Democrats. You have a real choice on Nov. 7, Arizona: Barry Hess or
more “dialogue” about “immigration reform” which are code words
for more of the same no matter which branch of the Republican/Democratic
party is in office. What’s it going to be?

I just wanted you to know that I wish everyone had seen the debate last night (Debate 1).

You not only addressed the issues with intelligent responses, you also made us laugh. You won us over right away with your opening comments.  You managed to keep us agreeing with you throughout the debate.

Then, after showing support for one language ending by showing respect for bi-lingual speakers was simply wonderful. Great job!

I also wish everyone would use their conscience when voting rather than automatically considering their vote to be wasted on a Libertarian.  I think voting for a candidate you don't really trust is
the wasted vote.  I do not vote party lines, any party.

Last night was so wonderful for my family because we have a real Libertarian to vote for as our governor. In fact, if you don't win we can see no noticeable difference between the other two candidates. Thank you so much for the time and effort it takes to be a candidate.  We hope to see you much more as the governor of Arizona.

Hess Accepts Harris Endorsement

This afternoon, Monday, October 9, 2006, Barry Hess, Libertarian candidate for Governor, gladly and proudly accepted the endorsement of Mike Harris, former Republican candidate for Governor.

Mr. Harris, whose concern has always been and will be for the future of Arizona, says “There is only one candidate left in the Governor’s race that can provide true and effective leadership from the Governor’s office, and that it is not Janet Napolitano nor Len Munsil; it is Barry Hess.”

It is with great pride and honor, that Mr. Hess accepts the endorsement of Mr. Harris. Mr. Hess looks forward to working with Mr. Harris and other Republicans, in addressing and solving the issues facing Arizona.

This endorsement is an example that of Mr. Hess’ ability to work with people from across the political spectrum and is willing to accept any idea or solution that benefits Arizona regardless of the political affiliation of its author.

Glenn Jacobs (aka WWE's Kane) Endorses Barry Hess

Why Barry Hess for Governor of Arizona is Important to Me.

I am not a resident of Arizona, so it may seem strange that I should be concerned about whom you elect as governor of your state.  It matters to me because, in my state, I will not have the opportunity to vote for someone who believes in the principles of individual freedom, personal responsibility, and small government.

I will not be given the ability to vote for someone who believes the government should keep its hands off your property; who believes that your money is yours to keep, not the government's to spend; who believes that you, not the government, should be in charge of your children's education; who believes that the government is not a vehicle by which other individuals can impose their values on you.
