For Immediate Release:
PHOENIX, AZ – Libertarian Party Gubernatorial candidate Barry Hess called upon Scottsdale voters today to oppose Scottsdale's Proposition 401 that will be decided on by voters in that city September 12th.
"Aside from the obvious economic benefits clubs, like Babes, bring to cities like Scottsdale, no one is forced to enter or leave sexually-oriented establishments." Hess said. "Strip clubs and escort services are services established by consenting adults for consenting adults. Ultimately, people who consume and work in adult entertainment know what they are getting into. If employees of adult entertainment do not like the job they are working in or patrons do not like the service they are provided, they are free to leave."
Hess wonders if cities, like Scottsdale, who are enacting heavy-handed laws to regulate adult-oriented establishments are instead clamoring for vacant lots in the places strip clubs occupy.
Hess went on to say that the statistics and claims of 'negative secondary effects' on the part of the supporters of Prop 401 are questionable too.
"Its obvious the City of Scottsdale would use the regulations in Proposition 401 as another method of taxation so the city can legally extract money from the club's owners and its employees." Hess said. "If Scottsdale's politicians were really interested in preventing crime they would commit the city's police resources to stopping real crimes like robberies, rapes and murders."
