Time to put U.S. under new management

Sept. 9, 2006 12:00 AM I find it both encouraging and worthy of appreciation that The Arizona Republic would see clear to provide the Libertarian Party some equal copy ("Party aim: To recruit members," Valley & State, Aug. 29.

When the Republicans were founded in Ripon, Wis., in 1854, no one believed they would amount to anything. Six years later, they put Abraham Lincoln in the executive mansion. The rest, as they say, is history.

However, today, paraphrasing the old TV car ad, "It's not your father's Republican Party."

Thirty-five years ago, in 1971, many of the nation's registered Democrats and Republicans had grown disheartened and cynical, feeling that the major parties had not only gone astray, but were actually merging with one another. In the kindling of this conjecture, a new political party, based upon the fundamental principles of both the Founding Fathers and their new constitutional republic, was established and came to life: the Libertarian Party.

We are now in a national crisis and find our time-honored codes and standards all but thrust aside in America: the Constitution effectively suspended, free speech suppressed, habeas corpus nullified, the right to keep and bear arms abrogated, and due process of law all but abolished. These are absolute facts and are not the only outrages that have been committed in the name of "national security" since 9/11.

Enough is enough. It is now time for a regime change in Washington, for a new political party - the Libertarian Party - to raise America from of the dregs of 152 years of Demopublican repression, tyranny, war, mediocrity and perpetual debt.

It is time to put both Washington and its officious minions under new management and re-establish our genuinely libertarian pedigree before our splendid, noble nation becomes as "obliviated" as ancient Rome. - William N. Gaillard, Prescott

I read somewhere that elections are only pre-sale auctions of the labor of the common man, and now I know it’s true.

 

Most Arizonans would be surprised to find out that come Thursday, July 18th, 2002, the downtown Hyatt Regency will become the posh scene of a frantic bidding war.  It’s not so much that there’s a secret auction taking place that taints the event, but that all of the items for sale belong to you and me.  If there were a preview, you’d no doubt find a lot of eye-opening political realities, perhaps a publicly-funded stadium, or two, a light-headed publicly-funded rail scheme, maybe a special project to stabilize a contributor’s company, or some tax-breaks for ‘special’ industries, another alternative fuels bill and most definitely those unalienable rights we hear so much about.

Legal Equals?…Do I Hear an, ‘Amen’?

The recent scandal involving, Bishop O’Look-the-other-way has me reeling, as it should anyone who understands the concepts of individual ‘freedom’ and legal equality.  I’m not referring to the ‘crimes’ that were committed against children—those speak for themselves, but rather the way in which it is being handled by our public servants who’s duties include treating every single individual the same.

I believe this nation suffered its most damaging and self-destructive blow with the imposition of the income tax.  How so, you say?  The facts are clear, this single act brought about the need for two paychecks to sustain a household and put each of us under the direct control of our servant.  No longer could the average American child benefit from having a parent physically present to teach and guide them.  Instead, the second parent is forced to go to work for the Federal government and despite the rhetoric of the Liberal leadership, the effect on the children of America are the least of their considerations.  It’s all about money and the exercise of power.

In legal proceedings the Courts’ first task is to determine if defendants committed the act(s), THEN consider any mitigating factors as to punishment.  The safety net in our judicial system is the power of the informed jury, even to decide on the law.

 

We must each be totally responsible for our actions.  And we absolutely have to demand a return to respecting the principles of caveat emptor (“let the buyer beware”), and the Good Samaritan Rule (absent proof of “evil intent” any Citizen may offer assistance without fear of later prosecution for honest, well-intended mistakes).  And only a jury should be empowered to make such a determination.

The endless rules and regulations put in place, ostensibly to protect our environment, end up producing the opposite effect.  The very institutions that are supposed to “save us from ourselves”, such as the EPA, turn out to be the cause of the worst environmental degradation.  The simple obvious is that those individuals in government who are making decisions as to use, have no personal vested interest in what happens to the land or its values.  A little payola, and you can be granted the ‘right’ to strip mine public lands.  What are we doing?

“The limits of tyranny are defined by the endurance of the oppressed”, so said Frederick Douglas in regard to individuals being owned, as property.  His words are clear—when the oppressed finally stand up to their oppressors, there is but one outcome—FREEDOM.

 

The Supreme Court’s recent decision in Kelo-vs-New London marks what is probably the single most significant milestone in America’s devolution from a Free Constitutional Republic (*a written body of law based solely upon Constitutionally enumerated duties and functions, along with unequivocal limitations in regard to encroachment upon the inseparable natural Rights of each individual) to a Socialist Democracy  (*a doctrine of ‘mob’ rule, the Founding Fathers referred to as; the most vulgar and vile form of government where tyranny from the majority can ‘vote away’ a person’s individual Rights, privacy and property).
